Measurement of the ability of three compounds including (±)MDMA to stimulate uptake and release of [3H]5-HT in rat frontal cortical synaptosomes

At Sygnature we have expertise in carrying out uptake and release assays: functional in vitro techniques used to investigate the ability of compounds to either inhibit reuptake or induce release of neurotransmitters through the monoamine transporters. The serotonin (5-HT) transporter is largely responsible for regulating serotonergic neurotransmission within the central nervous system (CNS) and therefore is the principal target for many medications in the treatment of a range of psychiatric disorders such as anxiety, PTSD and depression. The aim of this study was to assess the ability of (±)MDMA, dexfenfluramine and fluoxetine to inhibit uptake and stimulate release of [3H]5-HT into/from rat frontal cortical synaptosomes.
